One of the less severe and infrequent side effects of Crestor is joint pain, according to WebMD; however, it is generally less severe than other side effects such as muscle pain. On rare occasions, patients experience muscle atrophy, inflammation and other muscular problems.

Doctors prescribe Crestor along with a change in diet to help patients lower their cholesterol and triglyceride levels. However, it causes undesirable side effects in some patients. When Crestor or any other medication results in such side effects, Mayo Clinic recommends patients consult with their doctor. He may be able to prescribe an alternative medication, reduce the dosage or suggest other helpful ways to reduce the side effects.
