The shrine room of the USS Arizona Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii, lists the names of the 1,177 crew members who died on Dec. 7, 1941. To the left of the list is a plaque with the names of survivors who chose to have their ashes interred with the ship.

The USS Arizona Memorial spans the midpoint of the sunken battleship, which is the final resting place for many of the crew. The lives lost on the USS Arizona represent more than half of the Americans killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor, but the legislation authorizing the funding for the Memorial stated that it was to commemorate all of the military personnel killed in the attack.
