What is a cricket's natural habitat?

The ideal natural habitat for a cricket is under a natural shelter in a meadow or pasture. Many take shelter under rocks or fallen tree branches in a field or along a roadside. Access to nearby plant food is an important part of a good cricket habitat.

Crickets typically feed on fungi, decaying plants and seedlings. For this reason, areas outside a home that have lots of plants, weeds and other vegetation are attractive. Female crickets prefer to lay eggs in the soil in areas that are less traveled and that are safe from predators. This factor makes the shelter of a log or another natural object even more vital.
