What is a ferret's natural habitat?

The black-footed ferret, which is the only ferret native to North America, once lived on the Great Plains from southern Canada to northern Mexico. It became extinct in the wild from 1986 to 2013, when it was reintroduced to over 20 locations in North America.

Black-footed ferrets live in prairie dog burrows. They use the burrows to sleep and eat, as well as keep their young safe from predators. Wild black-footed ferrets are nocturnal and venture out at night to search for prairie dogs to feed on. As of 2014, the wild ferret's habitat in the United States extends from Wyoming to Kansas.
