Do crocodiles have scales?

Crocodiles have scales covering the majority of their body. The shape of the scales depends on what part of the body they are covering.
The scales on the back of the crocodile are used as protection from other animals. There are bones placed throughout the scales that offers a way for the crocodile to retain heat while they are basking in the sunshine. The scales on the underside of the crocodile body are generally smoother and are the most valuable piece of the animal when hunting for leather. The crocodile's tail is made up of vertical scales that aid in the animals ability to swim.
