The cube root function is used to the find a number that when multiplied twice by itself gives the number inside the function. When the expression inside the cube root is a function, such as x - 5, the function is graphed for all possible values of x and y.
The cube root function is usually written with a 3 to the left of the radical sign, which is the symbol used for roots. It can also be expressed by taking a number or function to the exponent 1/3. Unlike the square root function, which can only find a real number root for positive numbers, the cube root function can find a real root for all real numbers except for zero.
