Is there a cure for hearing loss due to nerve damage?
By Forinfos - 12/03/2025 - 0 comments
As of 2015, there is no cure for sensorineural hearing loss, which is due to inner ear or auditory nerve damage, states Medline Plus. Causes of SNHL include head trauma, Ménière's disease, age-related hearing loss, malformation of the inner ear and prolonged exposure to loud noise.
Although a cure that fully restores hearing loss is not available as of 2015, existing treatments are successful in improving the condition, states the Hearing Loss Association of America. These include eardrum repair and hearing preservation surgeries, long-term therapy with corticosteroids, hearing aids that amplify sounds, and cochlear implants that stimulate the auditory nerve fiber directly.
