What is the currency of Hungary?
By Forinfos - 04/01/2026 - 0 comments
The currency of Hungary is the Forint. According to XE.com, at the close of business June 22, 2015, the Forint was trading at 274 against the US Dollar; that is, one Forint is not quite equal to four-tenths of a penny.
Hungarian currency is denominated 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000, and 20,000 Forints, with coins worth between 5 and 100 Forints. Hungary is a member of the European Union but not of the Eurozone. This means that Hungary retains its own currency, as do the United Kingdom, Sweden, and several other states. Because the exchange rates are so lopsided, travelers may be better off trading in local currency, although many tourist shops and even some regular retailers accept the Euro.
