How do you cut long layers?

To cut long layers, first part the hair, dividing it into two sections. Have the person tilt her head forward with her chin near her chest. Cut the hair straight across the bottom, one side at a time, working from the back to the front.

Tilting the head forward creates a gradient so that soft layers form from a straight-across cut. While working towards the front, angle the cut slightly to create the shortest layers around the face. To ensure even results, have the person sit up straight without crossing her legs, and then gently move her head down in front with her chin centered to get an even gradient. Use a lightweight, leave-in conditioner for easier combing during the process.
