What do damselflies eat?

Damselflies will eat nearly anything that they can catch and subdue, including small fish. The insects are predators and during larval stages, they feed on zooplankton.
As the damselflies grow, so does the size of their prey. The insects have an elbowed lower jaw, which they use to catch their prey. They will lay in wait or stalk their prey until they have it close. They will ambush it and feed on it. Some common foods for damselflies include mosquitoes, macroinvertebrates and other insects. These insects live in or near water and they breathe using gills located on their abdomens.
