What are the dangers of gasoline storage?

If gasoline is not stored properly, it is very dangerous due to its high flammability. Gasoline should always be stored in approved containers, and kept in a cool building separate from the home.
Keep gasoline in a tightly capped container, and store it as far as possible from living spaces. Store gasoline away from heaters, furnaces and even ignition sources such as pilot lights. Since gasoline vapors are heavier than air, they can move along floors to easily reach ignition sources and cause sparks and even full-scale fires.
If a gasoline spill occurs, use sawdust or paper for absorption and contact a local government representative to learn how to best dispose of these materials.
