The potential dangers of using rhodiola are not known, explains WebMD. Short-term use of rhodiola is possibly safe when taken by mouth, but doctors don't know the safety of long-term use, as of 2015.
There is not enough information to give proper advice to pregnant and breast-feeding women, so it is advisable to avoid using the medicine, notes WebMD. Patients take rhodiola to treat different conditions, but there is not enough medical evidence to substantiate its effectiveness. Some of its purported uses include treatment of cancer, diabetes and tuberculosis, and the prevention of aging, liver damage, and cold and flu. Some people also use it to increase stamina, mental capacity and energy.
