What was David Livingstone famous for?

David Livingstone was famous for his exploration in Africa and being the first white man to cross the continent. Livingstone was the first European to view Victoria Falls, and he also named them during his travels.

Livingstone traveled in Africa for 32 years, by foot, canoe and oxen. During his travels, he made numerous records and maps of the area that would become very valuable to future explorers to the area. His travels were often hampered by illness. During his early travels, he was often beset by dysentery, malaria and hunger. Livingstone died in Africa, and his companions buried his heart there before returning his preserved body back to England.
