The menstrual cycle begins on the first day of the last period and ends on the first day of the next period. Ovulation, when a woman is most likely to get pregnant, occurs between days 11 and 21 for most women, according to the American Pregnancy Association.
There are several recommended methods that women can use to estimate when they are most likely to get pregnant during their cycles, including keeping track of cycles on a calendar, looking for changes in cervical mucus and keeping track of basal body temperatures, according to Mayo Clinic. Cervical mucus becomes clearer before ovulation and thicker and cloudier after ovulation.
