What is decomposed granite paving?

Decomposed granite paving is a landscaping material formed from the erosion of solid granite. It is finer than gravel, with particles between the size of sand and pebbles, notes Gardenista.

When used for paving, decomposed granite is usually spread on top of a coarse layer of granite. It is also combined with stabilizer when used for paving, to help keep it where it is placed. The advantages of using decomposed granite for paving are that it allows water to drain and it keeps mud from seeping onto shoes. It also breaks down if it ends up somewhere undesirable. It can, however, mar floors if it sticks to shoes and gets tracked inside.
