How deep is the deepest ocean?

The deepest spot in an ocean is the Challenger Deep, which reaches 35,797 feet below sea level, making it the deepest known location on Earth. It is located in the Mariana Trench, which is southeast of Japan in the western Pacific Ocean.
The Challenger Deep was named after the British Royal Navy ship HMS Challenger, which was the first to measure the trench's depth. In 1960, a bathyscaphe named Trieste ventured into the trench, taking about five hours to complete its descent. Unfortunately, the Trieste suffered a window crack due to the ocean's pressure, forcing it to begin its return after only 20 minutes on the ocean floor.
