How do I define "convergent boundaries"?
By Forinfos - 18/08/2025 - 0 comments
Convergent boundaries are defined as locations where tectonic plates collide with each other. The melting lithospheric material produces volcanoes, and the motion of the tectonic plates along the convergent boundaries leads to earthquakes.
Convergent boundaries also produce mountain ranges. It is thought that convergent boundaries are responsible for the creation of the Rocky Mountains, the Himalayas, the Andes and the Alps as well as the Southern Alps of New Zealand, the Pontic Mountains of Turkey and the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean, which forms the deepest part of the Earth's oceans, is also located along a convergent boundary.
