Delta groups its SkyMiles partners into four different sets according to how the partners allow customers to accumulate reward points, which customers can exchange for free or reduced-priced flights. For instance, some partners award bonus points to customers who fly in business or first class, but some partners don't offer the extra points. The first two letters of a flight number indicate which airline is the ticketing carrier.
