In 2008, an 8-month-old baby was trapped and suffocated by a Delta drop-side crib due to a faulty safety pin. The incident led to the recall of 1.6 million cribs. This happened again in 2009, when a 7-month-old died of the same causes. The recalls, along with safety concerns, prompted the U.S. federal government to implement stricter crib-safety guidelines. The new rules resulted in a ban on the sale of drop-side cribs.
