Entropy decreases as a result of what?
By Forinfos - 19/10/2025 - 0 comments
Entropy decreases as a result of applying energy to a system to increase its order. However, entropy only decreases locally; the result of the work that decreases the entropy in one location emits other forms of energy elsewhere, increasing global entropy.
The universe as a whole is moving toward greater entropy. This trend results in the gradual distribution of energy and matter in the universe. Entropy is a focus of studies of thermodynamics. As entropy increases, heat energy becomes more dispersed among matter. Gradually, this is leading to maximal entropy, in which the temperature across the entire universe is uniform.
