The density of Jupiter is 1.33 grams per cubic centimeter, making it 0.24 times as dense as Earth. It is the second-most dense of the gas giants.
Jupiter's density is calculated by dividing the planet's mass by its volume. Although Jupiter is the most massive planet in the solar system, that size is diluted by planet's large volume. The planet is composed primarily of hydrogen and helium, although its dense core contains a higher proportion of high-density elements than the rest of the atmosphere. Despite its higher density, the core only comprises between 4 and 14 percent of the planet.
