Do most dentists accept Medicaid?
By Forinfos - 06/01/2026 - 0 comments
As of 2015, about one in three dentists accept Medicaid as a form of payment. General practice dentists are more likely than specialists to accept Medicaid, and dentists in rural areas are almost twice as likely to take Medicaid than those in cities or suburbs.
States are required to provide dental coverage for children enrolled in Medicaid, but each state can choose whether to provide dental coverage for adults. Most states provide emergency dental care for all Medicaid members, but fewer than half provide comprehensive coverage for those over the age of 18. To find out which dentists in a particular area accept Medicaid, check the list of participating physicians on the Medicaid website.
