Web designers do not necessarily have degrees. Some may have degrees in Computer Science or marketing-related fields, but it is not required. Many are actually self-taught and start out on their own. There are a few common ways to become a web designer. The first is to undergo formal training, which can occur through internships or small consulting projects. The second is self-training. Web designers who are self-taught do not typically start off working as web designers. Rather, they may work in the administrative or marketing sections of a company, take on web design responsibility and eventually move on to be a full-time web designer.
