Female robins have lighter-colored heads than their male counterparts. Male and female American Robins have gray-brown backs and wings, round red breasts, black and white streaked throats and yellow beaks.
Breeding robins of northeastern North America tend to have darker feathers than robins in the western United States. Turdus migratorious, commonly called the American robin, is a relatively large songbird found in gardens, yards, woodlands, fields and forests across most of the North American continent. Robins inhabit the lower 48 states year round. In winter, flocks of robins migrate as far south as Mexico. In summer, flocks of breeding robins can be found throughout northern Canada and Alaska.
