Where is Detroit?

The city of Detroit is located in the southeastern region of the lower peninsula of the state of Michigan. Detroit is situated on the west bank of the Detroit River, which connects Lake St. Clair to Lake Erie.

The city of Detroit grew up on the spot where the French explorer Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac established a fort in 1701. Detroit was the last stop on the underground railroad prior to the Civil War, was the birthplace of Motown music, and continues to be referred to as "The Motor City" due to the ingenuity of Henry Ford's moving assembly line for automobile production.
