Diabetes is one of the most common causes of burning feet along with alcohol abuse, says WebMd. Those conditions can lead to neuropathy, or nerve damage in the legs, which triggers the sensation of burning feet even when there is no injury present.
Diabetic neuropathy is a common complication of diabetes that can occur when a person's blood sugar is elevated for a long period of time, resulting in nerve damage. A person suffering from diabetic neuropathy may experience tingling, numbness, pain or a burning sensation in the feet, usually at night, says WebMD. Medications and keeping blood sugar levels under control can ease symptoms.
