What is a diagram of the Richter scale?

A diagram that uses the Richter scale is used to measure the magnitude of an earthquake. When an earthquake takes place, a device called a seismograph records the earthquake's vibration, and multiple seismographs can form a coherent picture. From the resulting diagram, the earthquake's force can be determined.

The Richter scale is a logarithmic scale providing readings from 0 to 10. As it is a logarithmic scale, each value of the Richter scale is 10 times larger than the previous value. An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale is 10 times stronger than one measuring 4.0. Earthquakes above 6.0 can cause damage to structures.
