What did the Algonquins eat?

Coastal Algonquins ate a lot of seafood, such as oysters, clams, mussels and lobsters, while those living further away from the coast hunted for food in the forests. Using fish to fertilize their crops, they grew and ate corn and used maple sap to make sugar.
Algonquins lived in villages throughout present-day Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York, and each village had a population of up to 900 people. Their homes were wigwams built from tree saplings and covered in animal hides, and they slept on beds made from the limbs of spruce trees that were covered with animal skins.
