When did Anchor Hocking first produce its line of Royal Ruby depression glass?

Anchor Hocking began producing Royal Ruby Depression glass products in either 1938 or 1939. It produced this color glass from approximately 1938 through 1967 and then again from 1973 through 1977.
Several Anchor Hocking glassware lines featured the Royal Ruby glass color. These lines include R-1700, R-4000, Bubble, Classic, Coronation and Manhattan. The company also produced novelty items in Royal Ruby such as vases, ashtrays and cigarette boxes. Between 1949 and 1964, Anchor Hocking produced Royal Ruby glass beer bottles for the Schlitz Brewing Company.
Most Royal Ruby glass pieces are not marked or signed. The few that are marked show an anchor with the letter H over it.
