Dr. Robert Atkins, creator of the high-protein, low-carbohydrate Atkins Diet, published “Dr. Atkins’ Diet Revolution†in 1972. His popularity increased and reached its height in 1992 when he published "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution."
Many experts were skeptical about Atkins' nutritional recommendations, which promoted the idea that a diet high in fat and protein and low in carbohydrates, was the best way to lose weight.
On April 9, 2003, Atkins was rushed to New York Weill Cornell Medical Center on April 9 after he slipped on an icy sidewalk outside his New York office. He died April 17, 2003. He was 72 years old.
