David Ruffin died of an overdose in 1991 after collapsing inside a crack house in Philadelphia. At the time of his death, the musician was 50 years old and had been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 as part of the Temptations.
Prior to his death, David Ruffin gained fame as a musician as part of the Temptations. He joined the group in 1963 to serve as a replacement for Eldridge Bryant, its tenor vocalist. Ruffin would become one of the group's main vocalists starting from 1965, performing on songs such as "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg."
