How did Dmitri Mendeleev die?

Dmitri Mendeleev died on Jan. 20, 1907 from influenza. He is best known for his contribution to the development of the periodic table of elements.

Mendeleev was born in Siberia, Russia on Feb. 7, 1834. He was the youngest of 14 children. His father was named Ivan Mendeleev and died when Dmitri was very young. His mother managed a glass-blowing factory, but she died in 1850 when Dmitri was only 16 years old.

Despite this setback, he went on to excel in math and science. He studied under a full scholarship at the University of St. Petersburg. He spent his career teaching, studying and organizing the elements based on their chemical and physical properties.
