What did Eskimos wear?

Traditional Eskimos, who are also known as the Inuit, wore clothes made of caribou skins. They wore two layers, including an inside layer of animal fur against their skin and an outer layer of skin with fur facing outward. This construction allowed the Inuit to stay warm and dry.

The outer layer of fur was worn as a coat with a hood, which is known as a parka. As footwear, traditional Intuit wore sealskin, which is waterproof. The Inuit migrated from Alaska and first arrived in Nunavik, or northern Quebec, in the 17th century. The Eskimo population disappeared inexplicably in the early 19th century.
