When did the groundhog see his shadow?

The largest Groundhog Day celebration takes place in Punxsutawney, Pa. with the groundhog Punxsutawney Phil. Most recently, Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow in 2014, 2012, 2010 to 2008 and 2006 to 2000.

Groundhog Day is an annual celebration that takes place on Feb. 2 throughout Canada and the United States. According to tradition, if it is sunny and the groundhog sees his shadow after emerging from his burrow, he predicts six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, he predicts an early spring. This celebration began as a German custom in Pennsylvania in the 18th century.
