Hutchinson-Gilford progeria is also characterized by a lack of growth and a distinctive facial appearance that includes large eyes, a thin nose, protruding ears and a small chin, the U.S. National Library of Medicine states. Hardening of the arteries occurs in patients with Hutchinson-Gilford progeria, and it makes them much more prone to a heart attack or stroke.
