When did Humanism start?

Humanism started in 1400 as a way to attach importance to humans rather than to a divine being. According to the American Humanist Association, Humanists believe that even without religion or other supernatural beliefs, humans would have the drive and responsibility to live lives that aspire to the greater good of society.
The Renaissance movement in Italy was an example of humanism. During this time, humanists believed that everything in the Greek and Latin classics contained everything that was needed to live a moral and effective life. The humanists also convinced the church that it needed their skills, and they worked to create a more classical form of the Mass.
