Why did Joan Rivers wear wigs?

In a 2014 Yahoo! Travel interview, Joan Rivers said she preferred wigs because they keep the head warmer than hats. Rivers specifically stated that while wigs may give the appearance of a "Marx Brother," warmth is a certainty.

In the interview, the late comedienne referenced a trekking excursion in Nepal, in which an airline lost all of her luggage. Rivers explained that she was forced to purchase new hiking gear and even located a yellow wig from American acquaintances who had a trunk full of Halloween costumes. Rivers spoke highly of the yellow wig, explaining it drew attention from the local village children.
