Who did the Johnson Reed Immigration Act of 1924 not affect?

Immigrants not affected by the Johnson Reed Immigration Act of 1924 included the wives of U.S. citizens as well as a citizen's unmarried children under age 18. Also unaffected were people living in the western hemisphere, professionals in the field of religion or academia, and students younger than 15.

The Johnson Reed Act of 1924 sought to limit immigration to the United States, particularly from Eastern Europe and Russia. Yearly immigration numbers under this act were subject to a quota system allowing only 2 percent of each nationality's population living in the United States in the 1890 census to enter the country. Completely excluded from immigration rights were people from Asia.
