Why did Longmire get cancelled?

The hit television show Longmire was allegedly cancelled to the age of its fans. The median age of the show's viewers was 60, while the network's target age was 48.
The TV show "Longmire" was based on Craig Johnson's mystery books about Wayne Longmire, a fictional Wyoming county sheriff. It was A&;E's second-most-popular show, behind "Duck Dynasty," bringing in 5.6 million viewers in its last season. Also contributing to the cancellation was the fact that A&;E did not have an ownership stake in the show. This, as well as programming to younger viewers, is a growing trend among TV networks.
