Mao Zedong, also known as Mao Tse-tung, came to power after the Communist party defeated the Nationalist party for control and World War II had ended. Zedong officially began his reign on October 1, 1949.
Zedong was a military leader who led the Cultural Revolution in China and was the primary Marxist theorist in China. He was also a solider and a member of the Chinese Communist Party, which he first discovered by learning about the Russian Revolution and the Soviet Union's communism ways in his job as a librarian assistant. However Zedong's efforts to take a "great leap forward" in policy failed and most of his ideas had terrible consequences for the people of China.
