When did NBC's soap "Days of Our Lives" first debut?

The NBC soap opera "Days of Our Lives" first premiered on November 8, 1965. As of May 2015, there have been over 12,500 episodes of the series. "Days of Our Lives" is filmed at the Burbank Studios in California and takes place in the fictional town of Salem.

While local listings do vary, "Days of Our Lives" generally airs on NBC networks at 11 a.m. EST Monday through Friday, with a rerun of Friday's episode Saturdays at 4 a.m. EST. The show first began as a half-hour melodrama, but expanded to an hour-long segment in 1975. The voiceover at the beginning of the show, provided by MacDonald Carey, has been part of the introduction since the show's inception.
