Niels Bohr received his early education at Gammelholm Grammar School in Denmark. His secondary education was received at the University of Copenhagen where he was awarded both his master's and doctorate degrees.

At the University of Copenhagen, Neils Bohr initially studied philosophy and mathematics but changed his studies to physics after winning a prize for a physics essay. He received his master's degree in physics in 1909 and his doctorate in 1911. After graduating from Copenhagen, Bohr moved to Cambridge and conducted post-doctorate experiments under professor J.J. Thompson at Trinity College. In 1913, Bohr published a new model of atomic structure that is now the basis of the famous quantum theory.
