Where did the Penobscot Indians live?

The Penobscot Indians are native to Maine. Traditionally, the Penobscot Indians were hunter-gatherers, which meant that they traveled from place to place in the different seasons. The land that they currently live on is only a small portion of their ancestral land.

As of 2014, there are still 2,398 members of the Penobscot tribe. Their original language was Eastern Abenaki, but the last Penobscot person who could speak Eastern Abenaki died in the 1990s. They are known for their baskets that are made from sweet grass, birch bark and brown ash and for their birch bark canoes. The canoes were their primary form of transportation.
