What did Puritans believe?

The Puritans were a group of Protestants from England in the 16th and 17th century who believed that the Church of England should be purified of all sorts of ceremony, liturgy and practices that weren't mentioned in the Scripture. They also believed that Bible was the sole authority that could be applied to all areas of life.

The basis of their religious belief was a focus on the sovereignty and righteousness of God, which was a little different than the Catholic belief that priests were more important and holier than the rest. Moreover, Puritans preferred the Old Testament as the basis of their beliefs.
