Why did Rosa Parks refuse to sit in a designated seat on the bus?

Rosa Parks was tired from working and refused to stand up to allow white passengers to sit down once the bus was full. When Rosa Parks got on the bus, she sat in the fifth row, which was the first row designated for "colored people."

For not moving when asked, Rosa Parks was arrested and fined $10. Her arrest prompted a chain of events that began the Civil Rights movement. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Ralph Abernathy organized a boycott of Montgomery's buses that began on December 5, 1955, and on November 23, 1956 segregated buses were declared unconstitutional.
