In the chest, women often feel a squeezing sensation rather than shooting pain with shortness of breath, states WebMD. This pain usually takes over the entire chest instead of just the side with the heart, states the American Heart Foundation. Stomach pain also manifests before a heart attack, and some women think that it is only heartburn or a stomach flu. Other symptoms of an oncoming heart attack include fatigue, sweating, nausea and lightheadedness.
