Sue Grafton began writing seriously when she was 18, and wrote her first novel at age 22. "A is for Alibi," her first novel featuring private investigator Kinsey Millhone, was the eighth novel she had written and became a bestseller. Grafton also spent 15 years writing screenplays for television movies.
Grafton was an English major in college, with minors in Fine Arts and Humanities. She attended the University of Louisville, Western Kentucky State Teachers College, and graduated from the University of Louisville in 1961.
The Kinsey Millhone novels each start with a different letter of the alphabet. The 24th novel in the series, "X," was published in 2015.
