The Throgs Neck Bridge got its name because it passes over a peninsula called Throgs Neck in the Bronx, New York. This narrow peninsula juts into the confluence of the East River and Long Island Sound.
The bridge was opened in1961 and connects the Bronx and Queens via Interstate Highway 295. It is an efficient way for drivers to access Long Island, upstate New York and the George Washington Bridge that leads into New Jersey.
Like many of the bridges that serve New York, the Throgs Neck Bridge was planned by urban planner Robert Moses and is operated by the Metropolitan Transit Authority.
