Where did Ultimate Frisbee originate?

Ultimate Frisbee was developed in 1968 by Joel Silver and other students at Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey. Ultimate Frisbee combines the athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of American football, USA Ultimate explains.

One prominent feature of the sport is its self-officiating nature, which is called "Spirit of the Game." USA Ultimate states that the players, not the referees, are responsible for fair play. Ultimate also can be played in its beach version or freestyle, which involves routines of 3 to 5 minutes in which the participants throw and catch the Frisbee in different ways.
