What did the Victorians do for entertainment?

The Victorians did a number of things for entertainment and many of those are things people still do today. The Victorians would support their local theater, take up a hobby and participate in sports.

The Victorians created many sports still popular today. They are credited with the invention of soccer, lawn tennis and rugby, and also participated in dog fighting, horseback riding, hunting and golf.

Theater was very popular during Victorian times, especially among those who could afford it. Many would spend an afternoon visiting minstrels or going to the opera. Christmas pantomime was popular, and it was during Victorian times that music such as piano pieces flourished.
